I have been a teacher of art for over thirty years. I began teaching in further education; more recently I prepared foreign students for entry to Winchester School of Art on behalf of the University of Southampton. My specialty is painting and drawing, as well as art history, in particular 19th and 20th Century art, and architectural history. I have prepared architectural students for applications to leading UK and US institutions, notably Cambridge University and the Bartlett School.
I have published essays on art history, in particular 19th Century French art, and modern art theory, as well as writing on art and art education for the Times Education Supplement. I was a columnist for the TES for six year.
I have run large art department, notably for Dulwich and Wellington College, based in China. During this period, I also created a successful art portfolio preparation programme.
