For new pupils, the first session will be oriented around basic speaking, writing, reading, and listening in English, so that I can determine the pupils level of understanding to better cater the next session towards their individual needs.
Lesson outline for existing pupils:
A lesson will begin with five minutes of catch up time. This means that at I’ll ask if the child has done the homework set out, if they have had any practice in the week, and we’ll have a general conversation so that I can establish which area of learning we should start with for the lesson.
The next five minutes will be recap time. Here, I’ll recap what we did in the last session and I’ll ask the child questions about the content of the last session. If the child's knowledge is good, then we’ll carry on with the session planned. However, if they need more practice, then I’ll use an alternative session plan for the session to best suit the child’s learning.
After this, the main forty minutes of the lesson will be focusing on the main content of the session. This could be focusing on any basic topic where we will be learning about speaking, listening, writing, and reading in English!
Finally, the last ten minutes of the session I’ll summaries what we learnt during the session, as well as set out homework for the child to complete in the week, to ensure they carry on with English even when not in tutoring session.
