I prefer to personalise each lesson to the student and what they will benefit most from. This may range from teaching or revising difficult topics to going through papers together. I use resources which I trust and found useful during my own GCSEs, as well as creating some of my own resources. My sessions will not only focus on knowing the content but also building confidence in yourself to do the questions individually. Homework is not always a priority for me as I know that often students can me overwhelmed with the amount of homework that they may already have from school etc, but if I feel like it would be beneficial then I would set a small amount to consolidate our class sessions.
The approach that I prefer to use is to first start by getting to know the student and their current level and goals in the subject. I then like to set short-term and long-term targets for what they would like to achieve, which together enables us to create a plan going forward. Although I prefer to plan sessions in advance and gather my resources beforehand, I am open to a more flexible approach to our sessions, for example if the student would like to ask questions on the day change the revision schedule around. In the past, my approach to tutoring has enabled my students to improve their grade by at least two grades, which is why I am confident in the approach that I use.
