Chemistry is all around us!
In my lessons i will do my best to inter-corporate my love for chemistry and most importantly transfer my love for chemistry unto my students. I believe with chemistry there are 4 parts to success:
> learning the content > understanding the content > active recall/ exam questions > linking it to other topics/ looking at it from another perspective.
To achieve these 4 steps, for learning the content I feel like with chemistry it is very easy to overlook it due to its complexity however in reality chemistry content is relatively easy as it is all around us and i believe that using real life examples is the best way to achieve this learning. Understanding the content I would say is the 2nd most important step to success within chemistry, anybody could learn and remember something but to understand it is vital. I will help my students understand anything in chemistry by explaining chemistry in little little chunks before putting the puzzle together as looking at the bigger picture may take some time and I am willing to drill the understanding into my students.Chemistry also is a lot of practical work and anything that was learnt I will always link back to the practicals. Active recall will be the core for my lessons as it is the most important step for sucess for any subject! I will install active recall very frequentlty in my lessons as soon as my students have understood and learnt the content. Lastly, to do well in chemistry you must be able to look at chemistry not as subtopics but as a whole subject and this is where the complexity can kick in as it can be a shock. To ensure my students can look at chemistry from a rear view, I will actively challenge them to link topics and to connect the dots.
