My field of study is English, with further training in the disciplines of linguistics, creative writing, and self-editing. I teach these subjects to teens as well as adults.
Working as I do in the third sector, around the tuition I deliver, I would describe myself as having buckets of understanding and empathy. I’m a positive person who finds it easy to relate to people of all ages. I have a teenager in her first year of university and another who has graduated; I’m therefore familiar with the stages of education these students will be experiencing or facing. My youngest daughter is autistic, and it’s particularly heartening to watch her achieve a First mark in her initial year following an alternative educational pathway to most other students.
I am certainly not someone who simply goes through the motions. A bubbly person, I enjoy brightening people’s day in any way I can, and two words I would definitely apply to myself would be energetic and innovative!
I personally believe in the power of accountability and feel that I would be good at motivating students to complete any tasks set. As someone who has had an incredibly varied career, both as an employee and as a freelancer and business owner, I feel I have a lot of knowledge and experience to share. I have used my aptitude and drive to get where I am in my career, as someone for whom further education wasn’t a choice. I do believe in such education where possible, however, which is why I’ve (gently) steered my two daughters toward gaining a degree.
I’m fully flexible in terms of working hours and evening and weekend sessions would not be a problem. I deliver training online as well as in person, so this role appeals to me greatly. It would be incredibly fulfilling to shape the potential of, and the opportunities for, the next generation.
