In my lessons I aim to obtain the balance between structure and fun, I will always adapt to the specific student and I want them to feel as comfortable as possible so they can maximise learning. It is ultimately about providing the optimal conditions in which they can learn. I am a funny, bubbly person which removes the intensity from first meetings.
After greetings I generally spend some time outlining the goals of the session as well as anything in particular the student would like to cover/ask. This by all means does not mean we can not diverge from the plan during the session as it all depends on the student themselves, I am here to help with what is requested.
Proceeding the outline of the session I will take time to explain the topic meticulously and clearly, starting form the basics up. I make my classes interactive because I believe it is essential to learn and stay engaged with the lesson. This enables me to test the students knowledge as we move forward.
Finally I conclude with a recap of the lesson followed by an insight into the topics we will visit in the following session. This is also a chance to ask any questions or give input into the topics that should be covered in the following week. Furthermore, it is an opportunity to reflect on what I could do better in the following week, if there are any particular strategies or learning styles they flourish with.
The necessity for homework can be discussed with each individual student. I understand that some students would rather revise over notes made in the session compared to the pressure of extra deadlines and obligations on top of their busy schedules.
