I try and focus on the main concepts that come with biology and build off of these. Understanding the fundamentals of any subject is the make-or-break point for many students. When it comes to individual lessons, it is important that I have the objective identified so the students understand what they are working towards. I first would teach the lesson to the student and give many examples of how this is applicable. I then would perform problems with the student that tie to the objective and expand on the concept further if needed. After this, I would allow the student to try certain problems on their own to help strengthen the concept and allow for more critical thinking resulting in more learning! I then would guide the student into explaining all parts of the concept in a summary. This allows me as the tutor to strengthen any misunderstood or confusing concepts the student has. Being able to teach a subject to someone is the best way to know that you have a great grasp on a specific concept. To make sure the student comprehends the subject. I would ask a few questions that make the students apply the knowledge they have just learned. This allows me to make sure the students are able to apply the knowledge and not just memorize the information. I would end with a question-and-answer section that allows the student to ask any last-minute question about the concept that benefits their learning. This strategy is very effective as it gives five opportunities for the students to strengthen their knowledge of the subject throughout the duration of the lesson.
