First I would give a test that has a range of topics and difficulties from grade 5 to grade 9 questions. Then I would thoroughly mark the paper and go trough the topic the student finds difficult to understand. After teaching a topic there would be a test of difficult questions and if the student reaches an understanding of about 80% we would move on to another topic.
