In a first lesson, I’d like to see what level you’re at with the kit and how comfortable you are then get some pieces to play or go through learning techniques.
For beginners, I have a few songs that would be easygoing yet also having multiple things to learn.
For an intermediate level I’d like to go through more techniques that would be a bit more advanced but taking a slow and easy approach.

Overall I’d like to teach students how to play through songs, learn techniques and add these into songs and develop their comfort with the kit as that will give them more freedom to learn by ear or improvise.
I will try and accompany every song learnt with sheet music and send to the student to practice in their own time as well as recycling the practice outside the lesson is very important.
I’d teach basic music theory too as that will come in handy with understanding the pieces although with drums, the standard isn’t too high for theory.
I’d also be teaching different time signatures as that is a huge factor in playing different songs, I play a lot of progressive rock so different time signatures is a common thing although I’d start with teaching the basic 4/4, 3/4 and 12/8. A method I liked to use for myself was playing difficult songs but simplifying them and then eventually building up my skill level into playing them properly although that’ll probably be for the intermediate level.
With all that I’m excited to collaborate with up and coming drummers who’ll eventually have the freedom to do whatever they want with their playing.
