I started tutoring 7 years ago, and has been a passion of mine since. I tailor the lessons to each student's needs and form of learning. My aim is to make the students feel confortable and make sure they truly understand what they're learning, in order to achieve their goals, whatever grade they're looking for. I get very invested and want to achieve those goals as much, if not more than them!...
I started tutoring 7 years ago, and has been a passion of mine since. I tailor the lessons to each student's needs and form of learning. My aim is to make the students feel confortable and make sure they truly understand what they're learning, in order to achieve their goals, whatever grade they're looking for. I get very invested and want to achieve those goals as much, if not more than them!
On the first lesson we will sit down and talk about those goals, making them realistic and adjusting any tutor time/homework time in order to make ahieve them in a realistic way. All my students have gone at least 2 grades up from their grade I originally took them from, up until 4 grades up! I cannot make promises, as I first look at the speed at which a student learns and then can predict and plan accordingly. As always, it is better to start the earliest as possible, preferably not much later as the academic year has started. However, I have taken many new students only during revision season leading up to their exams, and have seen great success too. However, in the latter case, it makes me sad knowing if we had started sooner, I know the students would have been capable of achieving so much more.
Lessons will include exercises where I see you attempt them, this is to see how your brain works, what your level and what your knowledge is, especially at the beginning, to find the areas you struggle with, and areas that we don't really need to touch/waste time in and only will come up every now and then/in revision for you to remember.
I will go through the exercises with you, showing step by step, but not all of them, seeing that you have truly understood each step and why I am taking the step, not just how to do it. This way you will be able to attempt any type of exercise even if the question changes a lot.
Letting you attempt a similar exercise.
Giving you a harder exercise/different cases that may come up in a question to make sure you can attempt them all.
Throughout all the topics I have a pupil page where I write how you did in each single sub topic to know what to come back to in future lessons, what to give you homework in, in order to create the perfect study plan. I look at not only at struggles in a specific sub topic, but common mistakes throughout all of them, even if you understand and know how to do the exercise, but have common 'silly' mistakes that can cost many marks, and I will create exercises, or fun tips that will help you not make them again.
A revision timetable according to your schedule when I am not there.
I am approachable when not in the lesson, especially when in revision time, sometimes it's a quick question you're doing and is not letting you continue, I am happy to answer it over text. If it's a bit more complex I will leave it for the following lesson, or if it's close to the exams, or for some reason I won't be seeing you in the near future due to holidays, I am also happy to send a video explanation :)
