I have been teaching in Scotland for over 5 years. I have taught from Primary 3 through to Primary 7. Most of my experience is with children aged 10-12 and in preparing them for transition to secondary education. I enjoy teaching all areas of the curriculum and find that with my tailored and focused approach children make very good progress in all areas of literacy and numeracy. I also have significant experience in teaching children working at 1st year level of high school.
My approach to teaching is to identify the strengths of my students and help the to identify the areas where they can make progress. I work with them and their parents to help them achieve success at their level and ensure they are fully supported with scaffolded examples and lots of opportunities for problem solving and enquiry. Rooting my approach in real life contexts means that concepts have more depth to them and allow children to see why we learn things the way we do.
Ultimately, each child is an individual and my approach is to help them achieve the most success at their level while maintaining high expectations. Building on what they know and making the links between concepts and ideas really helps children to achieve as they make the transition from primary to secondary.
