Hello everyone! My name is David, and I am a Spanish native speaker from Seville. In 2017, I moved to the US and was trained as a Spanish instructor in an American university. Since then, I have been teaching face-to-face, hybrid and online Spanish courses to students of a wide variety of ages (6-22 years old) and of all kinds of levels (beginner, intermediate and advanced Spanish), and I've also designed my own classes and creative writing workshops, and I have worked as Assistant Director for Study Abroad programs in Spain.
I am experienced training students for the GCSE and A Levels Spanish exams. My pedagogical practices are attentive to, and seek to engage with, students’ unique life experiences. I employ technology, gamification, and social media to address their generational interests, expanding their understanding and communication in the target language. I employ an inductive approach to the assimilation of grammar, and stimulating students’ linguistic intuition through the creation of dynamic tasks. I gained a wide range of experience teaching language courses face-to-face, online, and study abroad modes, and with students from tremendously diverse backgrounds. I designed syllabi, lesson plans and personalized pedagogical sequences creating resources for my classes. I have a Teaching with Technology Certificate, and my experience teaching online has enriched my design of solid lessons prioritizing interactive visual activities and digital tools.
My methodology consists of creating a student-centered, inclusive, supportive environment, delivering an effective learning experience through well-organized classes. I prioritize individuals' needs and particular interests to help them explore their own identity in the language. I tap into students’ interests in music, social media, mass culture and current events, and encourage them to reflect on their interpersonal connections.
My approach includes the design of dynamic, well-organized and creative lessons adapted to students' main goals, as well as the reinforcement of students' communicative skills in an inclusive environment and through gamification.
