Over the past six years I have been developing my music lessons to taylor exactly to the student's needs and expectations.
The first thing I do when teaching a new student is to establish their goals and expectations, once we have established what your objectives are we will start working towards them beginning with technique and theory exercises.
I believe good technique is fundamental and pairing it with harmony and theory offers a good solid base to build upon.
During the first half of the lesson there will be a focus on the more theoretical/technical aspects of music which we will then apply to a "real life" practical scenario. In this way you will be able to see how abstract concepts translate onto the instrument and you will internalise them easily. For example you might be interested in learning the "slap bass" technique. I would prepare some technique exercises to help you develop an efficient posture that allows you to have a good clean sound. In the second half of the lesson we would apply what you've learned to an actual song that uses the technique, so you can play along while applying the newly acquired knowledge.
I've found that by using this method students can tackle even the most challenging topics while still enjoying the fun side of music.
Finally wether you need a transcription a score or some backing tracks to play along to I can provide you with everything you need. I have always made my own handouts for students using music software like: Sibelius and Logic.
