I have been teaching students at university since 2007 at undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD level. In addition to this I have also been research active in my main areas of law which are terrorism & security, extremism, criminal law, policing and human rights.

My research has been widely published in books and journals. I have also been involved in advising government departments and policing agencies that resulted in me co-jointly preparing government reports.

My main areas of law that I teach are criminal law, public law (also known as constitutional & administrative law), law of evidence, foundations of law, human rights law and law relating to terrorism & extremism. Among the books I have had published one is a textbook Terrorism and the Law: A Comparative Study where the second edition was published by Routledge in 2022. My research activity and external roles has resulted in my teaching being research led, thereby ensuring the topics I deliver are both up to date and have a practical, relevant aspect demonstrating how law impacts on society.

In addition to presentations in my teaching I like to bring in students' input where they can not only explore issues but bring their own life experiences from which examine how law is not just something that is read but in how it impacts on our lives. This includes examining how the police, the legal profession and the judiciary apply the law. From this I expect students to legal develop analytical skills to present balanced arguments.
