I'm passionate about treating each student as an individual - if you learn with me I will discuss with you what your desired outcomes are, and we will set a plan in motion to help put you on that path! I have taught all ages, from Primary students all the way up to students at University! I believe that creativity and skills in composition are absolutely skills that can be taught, through creative tasks, study and analysis of existing music, and careful application of the ideas that one finds into their own music.
The main subjects I teach are classical composition, orchestration and music theory - everything from traditional counterpoint through to 20th Century harmony. I also teach music production, jazz and songwriting, so whatever your musical interests are, I can help guide you! I am patient and understand that every student will require a different approach.
My background is as a composer and orchestrator - I studied Composition at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, in London. Since graduation I have worked as a copyist, orchestrator and composer in music for TV, adverts and films. I also worked for five years in a vibrant International School in China, supporting Secondary students in their Composition and Music Production studies, helping them to get into their desired universities.
Outside of composition I am also a professional saxophonist and pianist. I have performed all over the world, in lineups that include (but are not limited to) solo performances, jazz orchestras, swing bands, sax quartets, orchestras and funk bands.
