Hello! I am a mentor in the user experience designer program through Springboard, an online training bootcamp helping people achieve their career dreams in a variety of technical fields. Using that experience, I know to build, implement, and work together through a comprehensive training program that gives a student everything needed to be a valuable asset to any client or company standing out from others.
My teaching method is pretty straightforward, focusing on empathy. That is a major component in understanding a customer or user. What that means for you is getting to know everything about your current industry knowledge and design experience for proper goal setting including building a curriculum schedule. We will work together on setting weekly meeting times, tracking progress percentages, and looking at when would be best to complete the training long term.
That means focusing on each unit with a weekly meetup using your preferred method of communication like Zoom or Skype for example. That will include research and an assignment submission that gets graded as passed or needs more work which we will go through. The meetings will usually be 30 minutes but can be extended depending on how the discussion is going.
My curriculum is as follows:
- Basic fundamentals of web design
This includes understanding balance, contrast, scale, color theory, visual hierarchy, proximity, repetition, alignment, typography, and positive/negative space.
- Theming and creating a brand presence
This includes teaching how to design a logo, mood board, iconography and style guide, establishing an ideal font set and imagery.
- The various stages of layout design
This is includes teaching how to design sketches, low fidelity wireframes, and finishing with high fidelity mockups.
- Create your design layout
This wraps up the curriculum by showing how all the previous units combine to demonstrate your ability to create a fictitious company's landing page.
Once all of that is complete, we can talk about moving into even more advanced concepts like creating a design system, accessibility standards for disabilities, and even developing an interactive prototype through Figma or Marvel that brings the designs to life as if it were a real website or app. This part is optional of course but will really help you fully understand a design project's process life cycle.
Thank you for your consideration and I really look forward to working together. Have a great day!
