When I was learning the best piece of information I was ever given was:

People learn in different ways and are receptive to different "triggers". As teachers it is our job to identify which triggers each student is receptive to and conduct our lesson structure accordingly.
As a general rule there are 3 types of stimuli that people respond to, They are Tactile, Visual and Auditory.
This is why a lot of teachers employ a "Tell, Show, Do" attitude. First they tell them how to do it
( Auditory), then they show them how to do it, (Visual) and lastly they get the student to actually do the task, (Tactile)
By observing the students reaction or response during the "Tell, Show, Do" presentation the teacher can find out which stimulus the student responds best to and can tailor the lesson accordingly.
Have you experienced when you were at school how you thought a certain teacher was a lot better than another, how you could associate with them? This is probably the reason why. Although they have defined content that they have to deliver if they deliver it in a way that you can relate to you are far more likely to understand the message he/she is trying to get across.
