I graduated with a degree in physics in 2018, and since then have been working as a maths and physics tutor with over 1000 hours tutoring under my belt. I have mostly worked to prepare students for their GCSEs, but also have experience with Key Stage 3, A Level and university students. In July 2022 I completed my PGCE in Secondary Mathematics, gaining Qualified Teacher Status. During my PGCE year I spent 120 days teaching in two schools, and taught classes from years 7 – 13, across a range of abilities.
I take a student-led approach to tutoring. I have a good subject knowledge and so can quickly adapt to a student’s needs and explore a range of approaches to build on prior knowledge and help them to develop their understanding. I provide a positive learning environment where students are encouraged to explore ideas and feel comfortable to ask questions. As well as teaching key concepts, I focus on applying knowledge using examples and exam-style questions. By seeing how concepts are used in practice, my students gain a better understanding and develop the skills necessary for success in their exams.
My favourite thing about tutoring is seeing my students grow in confidence. No two students are the same, and I enjoy working closely with individuals to find the approach that works best for them. It is hugely rewarding when a student has a ‘eureka’ moment, and I am always grateful to hear what previous students have gone on to do after our sessions have finished.
