I am currently a visiting professor for political philosophy at the university of Nairobi.
I concluded my Masters (in philosophy and political science) and PhD (in political science) degrees at Heidelberg University in Germany, but was also an exchange student at the National University of Ireland in Galway during my undergrad… many diverse impressions and viewpoints studying political science/philosophy myself!!
I have been tutoring and teaching politics and related subject matters in diverse cultural contexts and at various levels for 24 years: I started tutoring for immigrants in Germany at the age of 13 and also tutored English, social science, math and Latin as a teenager to finance my training for competitive sports.
Back then, I already discovered my passion for teaching and helping other students to achieve their goals, be it learning a new language or improving their grades at school. ??
Later on, I became a teaching assistant and then a lecturer/senior lecturer/professor at diverse political/social science departments. I’m currently working at an institute for Communication Studies at Dublin City University (Republic of Ireland).
I am also an associate researcher at the Centre for Deliberative Democracy and Global Governance at the University of Canberra (Australia). I am also one of the chairs of the UK Political Studies Association and the President of the international non-profit association DemocracyNet.
Hence, I spent most of my time over the past 6-8 years teaching and conducting research on politics in diverse English-speaking (and other ??) countries, serving as a visiting lecturer and visiting research fellow at diverse universities across the globe—e.g. at Westminster University, London (UK), the African Women’s Studies Centre (Kenya), the University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), the Technical University of Kenya, and the University of Canberra (Australia).
These experiences helped me to develop a teaching and learning approach that displays a lot of sensitivity to the needs of students from diverse (cultural/socio-economic/geographical/etc.) backgrounds. I always pursue a student-oriented teaching approach, putting a careful assessment of their needs and goals first, put prime value on constructive alignment.
Last, but definitely not least: learning should be as fun and engaging as possible.
Over the years, I developed a broad toolkit for (offline and) online teaching that meets these demands.
This means that after a first assessment (just a chat about what you need and want!), I will design an INDIVIDUAL schedule and you will get the opportunity to give me feedback! ????
It would be my utmost pleasure to help students with achieving their goals and to work with you as a tutor!!
