Being told that teaching is the best way of learning, I teach on the basis of continuing that chain, teaching students to teach their peers perpetuates this. I provide an on-demand structure of teaching wherein students specify what they wish to cover in topics, after which I teach that topic as well as similar content no different to “recommended reading” in a practical lens. Beyond English literature and language I can also provide lessons for GCSE and IB content in philosophy, English and economics to a higher level, also Chinese biology and Maths (Applications and interpretations) standard level. For exam board specific lessons I aim to guide my students with the key words which will award them the most marks as well as projecting the mentality required for the top grades. I attempt to keep the use of textbooks and presentations to a minimum as in my experience of education school through to university, spoken word is noted more than typed slides or words in a textbook. This way students are more engaging with the lesson and subject, upon discovering that a subject field is broader than the examination mark scheme, I hope to inspire recreational interest in the subjects mentioned. I do this by supplementing the students hobbies with the subject e.g. watch an episode of your favourite TV show / read a chapter from your favourite book in the desired language, from this forming a vocabulary list from the activity to later clarify in a dictation in class. Though this may seem like lazy teaching or not traditional, I find that incorporating the subject into every day life gradually is the best way to learn and discover newfound passions which could lead to a promising career if applied right.
