I have been playing piano for fourteen years and have a First Class degree in Music from the University of Oxford. During my time playing piano, I have had lessons from four different teachers as well as developing skills on my own. I believe this background gives me a unique perspective on how to engage different people based on their own skills and how they learn.
In my lessons, we will challenge ourselves to work on the skills we find challenging as well, as identifying the things that come easier to us and building those up as well. This is exactly how I continue to develop my own piano skills. We can pull from a wide range of repertoire depending on what music you like and really work together to make sure our lessons are fun and worthwhile.
I have experience teaching music to a variety of age groups from Primary school-aged children in my work with the South London Songsters, to adults in my work as Musical Director for Aseda Gospel Choir in Oxford. We will not just be learning how to play piano but also about music theory and music in general.
I received an adult diagnosis of dyspraxia when I was twenty years old and in learning more about my condition I was able to realise just how much learning to play the piano from a young age really helped me to develop coping mechanisms that I use to this day. I am passionate about encouraging people to foster a love for music but also about the other fantastic benefits that come from learning instruments.
