I have a bachelors degree in chemistry at the university of Aberdeen and a master's degree in medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry at the university of Freiburg in Germany. When I was conducting my master's degree research, I was invited often to teach the bachelors degree students basic concepts in medicinal and organic chemistry. I currently work in the pharmaceutical industry and I graduated over a year ago and so my chemistry knowledge is still fresh!
My lessons are tailored to the individual needs of each student. I start by assessing their current understanding of the material and then developing a personalized learning plan. I use a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, discussions, and problem-solving exercises.
My lessons are typically structured as follows:
Review: We begin by reviewing the previous lesson's material. This helps to ensure that students have a solid foundation before moving on to new concepts.
Lecture: I present the new material in a clear and concise manner. I use visuals and examples to help students understand the concepts.
Discussion: We discuss the new material and answer any questions that students may have. I encourage students to share their own thoughts and ideas.
Problem-solving: We work through practice problems together. This helps students to apply the concepts they have learned. Hands-on activity: If possible, we will complete a hands-on activity to reinforce the lesson's concepts.
I can also personalise the learning for anyone that has learning difficulty or certain neurodiversities, especially for those that have a difficult time with textbook learning. I have ADHD and I find it difficult to sit and directly read from a textbook for several hours, and so I learnt ways to keep myself interested and on top of my studies when I was studying.
