Did you know that the praying mantis only has one ear? Also its single ear isn't even on its head, the ear situated in the middle of its body!
My lessons about sound are full of facts and trivia relating to the incredible world of sound. In almost every area of life sound has a role to play and my job is to discover and share this information with others.
I am foremost a musician and play the violin and have a collection of slightly more unusual instruments such as a theremin, lithophone and a waterphone. In 2015 I started the School of Noise which runs workshops and talks exploring the science of sound. I have delivered activities in a wide variety of locations including the Royal Institution, Cambridge University, primary schools, Great Ormond Street Hospital, British Library, British Museum, Royal College of Music and many other locations.
My lessons can support students with their science or music learning as well as being something that is fun and interesting.
“That was a truly fantastic workshop – thank you so much. We (kids and teachers alike) learnt so much and it was so interactive, fun and varied. Amazing!”

“The School of Noise workshop was absolutely fantastic! Dan’s explanations were engaging and accessible for all children. The children were extremely excited throughout the workshop and eager to understand the science behind sound and to explore all of the many resources Dan provided. Dan provided adjustments and differentiated activities for children with SEN concerns and was able to engage all children irrespective of their needs. Overall, we would strongly recommend the School of Noise workshop!”
