My master's degree in education from Austin Peay State University involved doing hands-on teaching in an actual classroom. I taught several classes for fifth-level students in the ESL program at the university, and I was evaluated and got an excellent grade. Determining the content of a lesson depends on the age group to which the student belongs. I always start by determining the language level of the student to provide the appropriate content for his level. I prepare a lesson plan for each class and rely on various strategies in teaching English as a second language. An example of one of these strategies is reading aloud, as it gives the opportunity for both readers and listeners to think about the read content while reading it or listening to it. Another is the visual strategy, which helps to stimulate a student’s thinking, and to recall previous experiences. I employ these strategies, among others, to help in the development of the student's performance in reading, writing, grammar and conversation, with a focus on weak linguistic points. I fully ensure that the student comprehends and understands the content before the end of the class, by reviewing what was studied during the class and by asking if there are any questions or inquiries. The content provided according to the student’s level comes from specialized books for teaching a second language and advanced specialized educational websites.
