I have extensive experience working in SEN and SEMH schools so am well equipped to deal with any student's individual needs. Because of this, I adapt my lesson plans to reflect each child's age and style of learning, and we can discuss this in more detail after you reach out.
Generally, my sessions will start by recapping any content from previous weeks with a short game or fun activity, then introducing the learning objectives for the week and completing some short worksheets of building difficulty to encourage full well-rounded understanding of the topic. I carry out regular formative assessments (nothing too scary, just short progress checks to check what we need to work on) and try to get my students as involved as possible in their own learning, asking them to rate their confidence and identify bits they find tricky.
Positive reinforcement underpins everything I do - especially with primary education, the key is to foster a passion for learning and confidence in their own abilities: this will set them up for success at all levels of education. I have an in-depth understanding of motivational psychology and what learners need to feel motivated and confident in their own progress. In my sessions, this will look like regular check-ins, celebration of their achievements and progress, and autonomy over their own learning (choosing which topics to revise, reflecting on their own progress, etc.)
If this sounds like a good fit for you or your child, reach out and we can talk more about your individual needs!
