My teaching method will always be centred around the child. It will change and adapt to meet their needs and revision style. My lessons include adding to their knowledge that they have previously learned, but also implementing revision skills that they can use throughout their life. For primary aged children I focus on reading and writing skills. Identifying language terms and a focus on Spag and creative writing. Making sure the child understands how to identify what a question is asking and how to implement their knowledge into structuring an answer. For secondary students, it’s all about preparation for GCSE style questions and learning how to identify they language features, context and the writers intent. How to structure their answers using the petal method and how to maximise the mark scheme without rambling or going off topic. Making sure that they understand their texts and helping them think of their own thoughts and opinions using the text to back them up. For language, a focus on creative writing which is often overwhelming for people of that age, and teaching them how to correctly annotate new pieces which they haven’t seen before to maximise their time in exams. I have tutored neighbours and family friends through SATS and GCSEs and have brought their confidence and their grades up.
