I studied Chemistry and Biology for the Leaving Certificate in Ireland and I loved it, so I continued to study Biopharmaceutical Chemistry in University. Although I'm not a teacher, I love teaching the subjects to students who want to learn!
I normally start out by assessing what topics I need to cover with the student and work from there. If possible, I also try to work in-tandem with what topics are being covered by the school teacher so that the student can better grasp the topics being covered and not fall behind.
My lessons are a relaxed environment where the student is free to ask me any questions, and where they can lead their own learning if that's what they need.
I strongly encourage understanding of the topics that are being taught, as opposed to rote-learning of the material, because understanding leads to easier remembering and also the ability to use that information in other settings. In this sense, my teaching style is very centred around helping the student understand and grasp the different concepts so that they can use them as building blocks to formulate answers to exam questions.
I am happy to cover any topic in the curricula as needed.
