I’ve spent the last 13 years helping students in Mexico go from absolute beginners of the English language to competent users. I’ve worked as a junior high school teacher, a university professor, and a tutor at private English academies. My speciality is preparing students for proficiency exams such as the TOEFL, IELTS, B2 First and the TKT.

I am an avid lover of all things related to technology, and incorporate use of devices and platforms in the classroom as much as possible. This includes interactive worksheets, multiplayer games, video and audio based exercises and teaching learners how to become autonomous users of the internet to promote self-study.

As the mother of a bilingual child, it has been quite the learning experience to see how one actual acquires language versus being taught it in school. This has afforded me the ability to see some of the pros and cons in the ESL teaching process. While making use of the grammar translation method is often frowned upon, it is very useful in teaching Medical English. However, communicative classes must rely on a variety of other approaches to best fit the needs of their students.

My job is to identify the specific goals of my students and design a plan and program to fit their needs. English does not have a one-size fits all solution. The challenge of identifying a course of action for an individual learner or a group of learners is what keeps me motivated to be the best educator possible for my students.
