Although I have no formal tutoring experience, I have had foreign friends who I’ve helped with their understanding of the English language. This was done through basic conversation and helping with any words they had difficulty saying or understanding what the word itself means.

I think this is an amazing opportunity, as the English is essential almost everywhere nowadays. I have a lot of patience and will give positive feedback and will help with any difficulty a student may face.

For the younger students, there will be lessons on basic words and sentence structure. Lessons on phonics could also be given, and for words that sound the same. For example, ‘their’, ‘there’ and ‘they’re’.

For the older students, the same principles as the younger students could be taught if English is a second-language. This will allow basic knowledge and will form the foundation. A small test will be given to see if they have basic understanding beforehand, and if not, the basics will be revisited to help. Since they are older, they will be required to know more about the language for their GCSE English language exam. So, I will show them how to analyse text from practice exam papers and will also have the answers with me and point out how to get the expected answers from the questions. This will help the students get a more ‘analytical mind’, allowing them to easily answer the questions they receive on their GCSE paper.

I completed my GCSE English language in 2020 with a C* grade, and although it’s not an A, my English skills have improved since then. I am now at university studying Law and a good understanding of English is vital. I will ask the students why they want to learn English and how they like getting taught, since everyone has their preferred way of learning. I will use this to help deliver lessons they will enjoy learning from.
