I was a Maths teacher teaching up to junior Secondary level in Hong Kong. In my free time, I worked as a private tutor helping students before they sit for public examination.
I relocated to UK in 2021 and work in schools.
In 2022, I also worked as a private tutor teaching Maths. My student was newly relocated to UK from Hong Kong also.
It was quite a hard time for her to adapt to the new environment ,new school, new teachers, new classmates, etc... Although my student was very weak in the basic concepts, I clarify the concepts by asking questions,, I always use colour pencils during the lesson . I use real objects, e.g. use an empty box for calculating volume, I gave her homework , I helped her gain confidence by giving positive comment and encouragement, she improved a lot within a few months and finally got into a Grammar school.
Before I start teaching, I always try to understand the student's weak point and strong point. I care a lot about their physical and mental health as these affect their performance in school . I use interesting methods ,so the students will feel that Maths is just like playing games. I made the students understand what they learnt from Maths is closely related to their everyday life, it is not so very scary as what they always imagine. I keep close contact with parents so as to help the students with our cooperation. At last the parents and I become friends.
