I work using a workshop/lecture model. Working with the student to find areas that need bolstering while working to improve strong skills. My lessons are designed around each individual needs and push the student to find their own voice as well as improve on foundational techniques.

I do not just concentrate on the building block, I look at the creative side of writing. How to inspire yourself to have ideas. How to play with those ideas to create plots and characters. Looking at genres and diving deeper into them to understand the structure and create narratives within those structures.

I am a Metafictional Theorist and teach students how to analyse their own work to gain maximum understanding of their craft. This helps to improve their storytelling abilities. The goal of any writer is to communicate the idea to the reader. This is not only achieved through grammar, it requires an understanding of the thematic structure and stylistic choices. This is fundamental to understanding how to improve as a writer.

Every student is different and I work at their pace, not mine. Some people get certain concepts quicker than others, but that is not a problem. There is not one simple trick to learning and sometimes several techniques have to be tried to find the right one that works best. I am a very patent and encouraging person. Everyone has a right to be treated with respect and given the chance to shine.

I see my job as nurturing the next great writers.
