My lessons are always tailored to my student’s age, creative goals and personal preferences, which we can discuss privately. I tutor individuals and small groups, preferably at their home, but lessons at my home or alternative location (like a coffee shop) are also possible, depending on your situation.
I always start by giving context to the subject, art style or technique I plan to cover during the session, so it is seen as an integral part of the kaleidoscope of ideas, methods and practices that are what we term ‘art'. I like to use a few fun warm-up art exercises before moving on to teaching the basic techniques to make students feel more relaxed and open to learning. My lessons are interactive, and I do like asking questions, encouraging my students to make their own observations and develop their own style and way of doing things.
My approach is open and non-judgemental. Although I always teach the basic techniques and encourage my students to perfect them through practice, I also acknowledge that confidence and expression in creativity if far more important than seeking ‘perfection’.
