Also, how they can see progress even if it is small. At the beginning of each lesson I engaged the student in a warm up lesson, then a main activity and finally plenary to round off the session. I do set homework, it can depend on how much they have understood, the lesson and all comments must be positive to help students see they are not failures. Each different and difficult situation they face should be viewed has a challenge and not a defeat. Also, my main focus is to help students to study better and more efficiently and how to retain the information. So, effective note taking is needed. Each session needs a clear objective, so it could be the need to improve grammar, reading comprehension skills or vocabulary.
I will highlight that the brain is like a muscle, the more you use it the better it works, it's like going to the gym for exercise.
So if they have me as their tutor they will progress fast and gain confidence in learning and be ready to face the challenges of any subject. The reason I have these skills, I have worked many years with students with learning difficulties and have acquired the patience that's needed.
