There are several teaching methods learned with the TEFL Academy, and they are specific to the age group as well as the level of language required to be taught. These methods include (but are not limited to): word association games, fill in the blanks, and more!

The content of the lessons vary and are highly dependent on the interests of the students, as well as what they are learning Italian for (i.e. to pursue further study, to move to or visit another country, for work related reasons, etc).

How I like to teach Italian is to get to know the student a bit better first, and in the first few minutes of every lesson have a basic conversation (‘how was your day, what did you do this weekend, what are your plans for the week, what are you going to do on your holiday?, etc)! Then it is followed by an exercise so could be a comprehension exercise or an aural exercise (or both). It is highly dependent on the time that we have.

If the student is learning Italian for school/as an extracurricular, then much of what will be taught is based on the student’s school curriculum. If it is an adult wanting to use the language for work, it will be related to their work (so for instance if it’s hospitality work, useful phrases, such as politely greeting a customer, will be learned). If it is a young child, it will most likely be many game and picture related exercises. It may be trial and error until the correct and best method suited to the student is found! Whatever works best for each student.
