My first priority in online lessons is to establish what the pupil is struggling with and what areas they would like to work on. This enables me to target lessons specifically at the content pupils are needing support with. Where they are unsure what they need, I would use questioning and some simple sample tasks to establish which areas they are finding challenging and where to begin our learning journey. For maths lessons, I have experience using a variety of online interactive tools to help give visual and dynamic demonstrations of the content. Where appropriate, my lessons may include videos and use of other websites to enrich the learning. I have a writing tablet to enable me to annotate and write on the screen to demonstrate answers to pupils as well as to draw their attention to various aspects of what is displayed. In English, I would tend to share with students a pre-written example of the type of content we are aiming to achieve. This would be followed by a collaborative piece of writing, where the pupil and I can work on the same document together - sharing the planning, writing and corrections needed to create an answer. Then, when the pupil has gained the necessary skills and confidence, I can watch them type an answer and be there to give encouragement, support and guidance as is needed on their journey to writing an answer independently. I adapt my style and method to suit pupils' individual learning needs and preferences. I aim to make my lessons fun and for pupils to leave my sessions feeling encouraged and having greater confidence in their skills and abilities.
