I'm a professional bassist who plays a variety of live gigs, including function and originals. I have also worked with an eclectic mix of artists in a recording setting with genres ranging from Punk Rock, Prog Rock and Grunge to Indie, R&B and Hip Hop. I have 4 years of teaching experience for both bass and drums and a 1st Honours Bachelors of Music in Popular Music. I've been playing drums since I was 9 (about 2006) and bass since I was 16 (about 2013) I have a Rockschool Grade 8 qualification in drums and play to a bachelors level in bass due to my university modules focusing on that instrument.
I like to make teaching fun and engaging by utilising specific songs to teach certain techniques or necessary basics such as scales. I find that this leads to my students understanding how to use the techniques easier due to having a musical context of where they do and don't work in a genre or individual piece of music. It also helps to make lessons more enjoyable and give a good start to a students repertoire of songs. I have expeirence working through the RSL grades myself and can help students work towards grades with any examination board as long we dicuss plans before or during lessons. I will recommend what grade to start on based on the student's ability if they have not already begun. I can do lessons online, at the student's home or in a local rehearsal room.
