I was a former national 5, Higher and Advanced Higher student and excelled at all levels. This is now what I am to teach alongside GCSE and A-level maths. I found out that I wanted to teach after finding a tutor for myself, this was a wonderful experience that allowed me to go to university and study what I wanted to. This experience was so great that during the same period, I took on my first student a friend's sibling who needed help with National 5 maths. She was struggling with some of the basics in National 5 maths an issue I have seen with many people the same age due to the loss of class time during Covid. I allowed her to lead most of the lessons to tell me what she wanted to learn and I would then get her to answer her questions while showing her the process to answer the question. My next student was a friend who didn't want to do further maths and they would often struggle with sitting for long periods with the work. They wanted and have gone on to do further politics at A-level. Despite the curriculum being slightly different to what mine was I showed them how maths could help them get what they wanted. This experience was slightly different and made me tweak how I should teach. I had to approach this experience head-on and had to push them to do what they needed to learn. They would often push back against this but in the end they came out with the grades they needed and we still speak to this day.
