I have two years of experience tutoring, as well as 3 coaching a variety of sports to children of all ages and abilities. I am very happy to follow whichever structure would best suit the student's learning style and aims: in the past, I have explicitly focused on students' weaknesses ahead of an imminent exam, or supplemented their learning by going through the course with them as their teacher did.
I am keen to develop students' writing, as well as improve their knowledge within their chosen subject. I have done this through a variety of methods in the past. For languages (English and MFL), this can involve worksheets and exercises designed to improve students' grasp of grammar and its application, spoken exercises. I have also reviewed students' previous work according to exam board specifications with the aim of improving their focus on what is required for the exams. For humanities such as history, this can be supplemented with regular mini-quizzes to test knowledge, as well as ensuring that regular engagement with source-based exercises. This ensures that students can feel comfortable in the tasks that exams give to them long before having to take any.
This ties in more broadly with study skills, which I believe are absolutely paramount for excellent academic achievement. I hope to not only be able to teach students how to get through a specific segment of the course, but also to equip them with skills that they can use to improve their abilities in their own time, or in a different aspect of their career later. For instance, essay technique taught for English can be very useful across a variety of humanities subjects.
I have very flexible availability, please send any questions to . I hope to speak to you soon!
