I tutored Mandarin in 2023 and 2024, employing a friendly but rigorous teaching style which is tailored to individual students. I want to see students succeed, which means being honest about mistakes and areas to work on, but equally being honest about where students are excelling and encouraging them to continue giving it their best.

My teaching style is informed by my experience as a student at Oxford University, where tutorials are engaging and challenging. By getting to the root of any problems students face, Oxford professors not only correct you when you're wrong, but show you fundamentally how you are going wrong and how to get on the right track - as well as encourage you when you do produce a fantastic essay or translation. I want to use that same approach to boost the confidence of students, set them on the right track, and show them that they can achieve their aspirations and realise their potential with the right amount of targeted hard work.

Beyond the classroom, I've also been involved in language exchange programs and cultural events, fostering a deep appreciation for the Mandarin language and its rich cultural heritage. I lived in Taiwan for my second year at university, completely immersed in a Mandarin-speaking environment.

By combining my academic background, tutoring experience, and cultural understanding, I am confident in my ability to create a supportive and engaging learning environment.
