Lessons will involve a mix of direct teaching of concepts and related content to the learning objectives, and student engaging activities which are centred around the idea of active recall. There will also be an exam focus to the teaching, highlighting the most key information and high yield content to maximise exam marks.
I also place a large emphasis on the student's own opinion of their strengths and weaknesses. I encourage self reflection and development of the student's own self-analytical skills in relation to their studies. My students will typically be encouraged to suggest a direction for themselves, under the guidance of myself, which allows me to explore aspects of the content which students either find interesting themselves, or where they feel there are gaps in the knowledge. In particular, I always endeavour to convey proper understanding of what is being learnt, rather than just blindly memorising the correct answer - understanding why the answer is correct is key to applying your knowledge in different scenarios.
I am also able to incorporate a range of different teaching styles depending on what the student finds most useful, whether it be through visual learning approach or via a more traditional approach. Regardless, I firmly believe in the science behind active recall (and spaced repetition) when it comes to learning something, and try to incorporate this in my lessons.
Building on this, I think it is important to teach the skill of 'how to revise', by guiding them through it, so that come the exam time, students are able to use their time most effectively and efficiently.
