I use a range of strategies depending on the subject matter. E.g. when teaching basic skills, after doing a form of assessment, I would write an individual learning plan for the student and set agreed targets to work on any difficulties. Depending on what kind of learner the student is i.e. kinesthetic, visual etc., I would concentrate on writing my lessons using that medium if appropriate.
If teaching Creative Writing, there are a number of exercises and techniques that I have employed such as looking at various writing styles. My methods include, asking questions that prompt analysis or writing cryptic questions to encourage lateral thinking.
