Throuh my ttoring experience, both as an online tutor and as a one-to-one GCSE tutor in a school, I've found that the key to a productive session is through plenty of discussion and practice problem solving. I like to begin all my tutoring sessions with a little recap to find out what a student has found tricky, what they've enjoyed, and what they'd like to focus more on. Through this I can tailor my session plans to the needs of the student and ensure that they're never covering things they don't need to cover. I think the best way to learn Maths and Science is to do, so I focus on using practice problems, puzzle questions, and mock exam papers to consolidate learning and reveal any topics that are a point of difficulty. First, we might go through some problems together, discussing how you would approach the problem, what content and tools we might need to tackle the problem, and then finally working through it methodically. I try to keep the sessions as fun and engaging as possible, and can change up the plan of session as and when depending on your needs. I like to have lots of input from my students, I think the best sessions are the ones where I say least!
