The format of the lessons I offer is whiteboard based. I find that using pen and paper is much for efficient for memory, and after all, you don’t get an iPad in exams!

When I first meet the student we’ll have a chat, going over their personal goals and what it is they would like to study so that it can be student centred teaching, laid out in order of what they need to work on.

Once the list of goals is created, the basic layout is that we begin with an introduction to the topic, going over the core information so the student has a strong foundation. We then build upon this, adding a layer of difficulty each time. This is great for confidence building as it can be defeatist to jump into the hard stuff that they don’t understand straight away. Being confident in each level before moving on is vital for overall understanding.

We will do a small test after each topic so we can assess the parts we need to go over again, not moving on until the student is completely confident that they can reproduce the content themselves outside of the session.

I am engaging and firm but also kind, giving maximum comfort to the student. I believe that the session works best when it is student led
