I do a mix of discussion, presenting and activity when teaching. It is very important as a teacher to keep the child engaged and enjoying their learning. The presentation is the sole teaching side and may be considered the ‘less fun’ side for the child where we bring in the knowledge. This is where the initial learning starts. The discussion part allows me to see how much the child knows already and what kind of questions arise in conversation to give me a more insightful understanding of what the child would like to know. Through activity, you have fun all the while continue your intake of knowledge. I have an undergraduate music degree so music will also take a place in my teaching whether it is health and well-being lessons or listening to music for quiet writing time. All in all, I try to make my lessons a perfect blend of fun and interesting and will always collaborate with the child to find out what kind of things they enjoy. This helps me incorporate it into the teaching and keep the child engaged and find pleasure in their learning.
I would also like to create a great relationship with not only my students, but their families too. Parental collaboration and encouragement helps learning immensely. When a child knows they are getting the same amount of encouragement at home as with me, their learning and retaining of knowledge will heighten. I am here to help as best as I can.
