To my potential students...
I have a bachelor's degree in environmental technology and over 5 years of experience teaching mathematics to primary through senior secondary 2 students. I am currently enrolled in mathematics classes at the university as part of the Big Data modules. I am confident in saying that I am familiar with basic mathematics, and trust me, I know the pains because I am currently living them.
Growing up as a student, I had a horrid time with mathematics. The concepts were confusing, and that took a toll on my confidence, and the issue became a monster when I developed a phobia. After years of personal therapy, hard work, and failures, I overcame my fears, and today I can confidently take mathematics classes and teach mathematics. Soon, I am going to be inducted as an academic representative in a faculty of computing and mathematics. If I can come this far, I wonder who can't.
During my classes, I encourage students to express themselves, argue politely, ask the "why", "how," and "when" where necessary, and occasionally, where not necessary. I try to relate the lesson to something students know and enjoy; for that reason, I watched cartoons and still do so alongside other shows that could help me relate to students better. I try to make students believe that the aim of learning is to solve problems, not just to get good grades; good grades are the icing on the cake.
I am very adept at using computers to deliver lessons. I am going to be a data analyst soon, hopefully. Using technology to deliver lessons is not a problem for me, as I take up bigger classes in my computing classes at the university.
In summary, I have been there and am still there. I felt the pain and still feel it. I know the ups and the downs, and I can confidently say that I can make you better. Ready when you are.
