Qualified Piano Teacher and Music Psychologist in Leeds (ABRSM expert for all grades up to diploma).
I am a piano teacher and concert pianist working with students for over 30 years. I am also an MA music psychologist who graduated from the University of Leeds. My teaching philosophy is to pursue students' holistic music development. Self-awareness between emotions and music plays an important role in exploring musical potential and personal characteristics. My teaching objective is to allow my students to have maximum autonomy in their music learning, so I consider my students' personalities and musical interests before my teaching plan for any of them. Based on maintaining mental health and well-being, lifelong music appreciation can enhance people's quality of life. Piano playing should be a natural enjoyment rather than a merely practical skill.
In my classes, if students can learn even though my younger students, I would be happy to teach them how to teach other students to pursue their highest level of musical knowledge and performing skills. Therefore, most of my students can play music in public and teach music after graduating from my teachings. I aim to help musicians to achieve a higher level of music commitment, including:
• Learning various genres of music repertoires.
• Music theory and keyboard skills.
• Play music most effectively without spending too much time in practice.
• Advanced performing skills and a higher degree of musicality.
• Psychological barriers in music performance (e.g., music aesthetics, expression, high music involvement, stage flight, depression, etc.)
• Mental and physical wellness for pianists (e.g., tennis elbows, etc.)
• Piano Mindfulness.
• Psychological counseling for pianists.
• Examination and competition strategies.
• High level of Quick study/Sight-reading skills.
• Viva voce (presentation skills)
• Written submission for ABRSM's diploma (e.g., programme notes etc.)
I can help you...
To correct unhealthy habits in piano playing.
To improve muscular pain or any physical illness caused by instrumental playing.
To emotionally heal through the knowledge of psychological understanding if you have suffered any mental illness from music practice.
To gain higher marks in examinations and competitions.
I also teach piano pedagogy in my class if my adult students can learn and foster my younger students from earlier ages to ensure they have been well-developed as expert musicians with a high degree of knowledge and musical skills.
Further information about me…
