Florence Cheng

Having over 20 years’ experience in choral, vocal and piano education as well as performing and programming, I had been working with students from age of 4 to 25 teaching at top graded children’s choirs in Hong Kong, participated in concerts, musicals, and opera productions every year. Over the years, I have participated and led concerts and performances for school choirs, community choirs, and church choirs in local venues and international festivals, working across different musical styles from Renaissance to contemporary. The most recent participation with gold award was in the Singapore International Choral Festival 2018.

As a classical trained soprano, I devoted myself in voice training, diction coaching, and performance appearance, covering different singing styles including classical, musical theatre and pop. I have also been teaching piano and music theory. My teaching approach is to develop customised training programme based on individual musical ability and personality, with effective communication with parents, understanding students’ characters and parents’ expectations. My students are actively taking part in competitions and ABRSM graded examinations, that I usually be their piano accompaniment. I am also experienced in teaching and running music playgroups for children around 3-6, providing multi-sensory music lessons with application of Montessori and Kodaly (music) methodologies.

I strive for providing professional teaching and loving environment and enjoy working as a team. Music making provides a way for students to know the past, express themselves, stimulates creativities, and develops communication skills. It is a joy to work with young people in regular basis and see them grow.
