I've tutored many students and even various physically disabled children. I'm a student at Imperial College London studying Joint Mathematics and Computer Science.
I like to format my tutoring according to each student's needs, starting off by understanding what your goals are and what you have trouble with. I will then set each of our expectations on being on time, paying attention and the like. To form an understanding I'd rather guide than lecture, meaning my session will be student-led and interactive (unless, of course, if we agreed otherwise). I generally speaking like to take a more holistic approach also teaching how to form good habits and strong social skills.
These are my basic expectations, which can be changed for each tutee: You are expected to have looked over the topic we are covering before sessions. You are expected to have completed or attempted any homework I've given. You are expected to ask any questions that you have and let me know if you don't understand something.
After laying down the groundwork for the tutee and tutor relationship, the tutoring sessions can look quite different for each student, but generally speaking: We'll go over your homework, if there was any. Then we'll move on to discussing the topic we agreed to learn. You will be explaining what you understand of the material and I'll be asking questions to get a firm grasp of your knowledge. I'll fill in any gaps in your understanding if there are any. Finally, to solidify what we've learnt I'll give exercises and possibly homework. Afterwards I like to check in with you about non-study related things.
For online sessions: I can use Zoom, Teams, Google Meet or Discord. I will share my screen, which will be acting as a whiteboard where I can write on.
