Hello! My name is Chen. I have three years experience of tutoring high school to college students.
I like my tutoring sessions to be enthusiastic and friendly, but also highly productive. I really listen to my students, and make a note of what they would like to gain from our sessions.
Usually, we start by evaluating areas in which the student is confident, then look at areas in which they are OK, and then areas that need work. That way I can devise a thorough plan to get them where they need to be!
In regards to GCSE’s and A-levels, I’ve found it’s highly effective to go through past papers and discuss how to secure the top marks. I also like to read and review any essay or creative writing samples the student is happy to provide. That way I can really see where they are at.
Furthermore, I am able to produce notes and a mini study-guide on certain books that appear on the school curriculum if asked! I will also comb through the syllabus of whichever exam board is relevant, so I can really tailor the lessons to what we’ll need to cover to help secure your desired grade.
Recently, I had an old student of mine message me to say they were now studying at Oxford University, and my sessions gave them the confidence to apply.
In my classes, my students’ aspirations matter. There are never any silly goals, and the more questions you ask, the better!
