My experience in teaching English as a Foreign/Second Language comes from both personal tutoring sessions and the education I've received at University. I've conducted individual and class lessons and created lesson plans suited to submit to advisors and superintendents above my position. Within these lessons, I've also peer reviewed and conducted research based on the best ways in which individuals learn English as a Foreign language. I've learned the proper ways to teach English both to Native Speakers and to those that are looking to learn English as a foreign language. I implement TESOL teaching methods and approach each student individually. Based on initial assessment and comfort levels, I work with students to create an educational goal that meets their needs and considers their current status in the language. By taking note of students strengths, I promote an environment that allows students to explore and express themselves in the target language. With each session, I devise a student lesson plan with specific goals and key language points to cover over the course of the lesson. I provide a combination of written/reading assignments and lessons as well as those for speaking/listening. I believe it is important to consider the individual goals of each individual that I tutor, so that we can together decide the best course of action that the lessons should take. At the end of each lesson, I like to provide a list of resources for further learning so that the student feels empowered beyond the time that we spend in our allotted time.
